Finding a Children’s Eye Doctor in Austin
Some children never have need of going to the optometrist. There are many times, however, when children come home from school with a note from the nurse that says that they did not pass the vision test. When this happens, it’s time to look for an Austin optometrist. Finding the right eye doctor for your child, however, can be tricky, as some optometrists do not work well with young children, while others are great with them. How do you know which optometrist is which, and which one will be the best person to work with your child?
Calling the Office
Before you bring your child to any optometrist, make sure that you speak with the front desk staff first. Ask them all sorts of questions about the optometrists training. If they had specialized training with young children, the receptionist should be able to tell you about that. Ask if the optometrist treats children regularly, and if he has child sized frames available. After all, if your child does need glasses, they would need to have the right size of glasses. Booking an appointment with an eye doctor who doesn’t carry children’s frames wouldn’t work at all. Make sure that you ask as many questions as you want to before you book the initial appointment, as you and your child should both feel comfortable with your eye doctor.
Visiting The Office
Once you’ve booked the appointment, it’s time to visit the office. You can visit during your regular appointment, or you can just drop by for a few minutes to look around. When you’re talking about a childrens eye doctor, you definitely want to see some sort of children’s things in the office. This doesn’t mean that there has to be a huge play center for the children (although it does make it fun for children), but you should at least see some children’s books scattered around and other little things for the children to do while they’re waiting for their appointment. An office completely devoid of children’s items may mean that the doctor doesn’t have much experience in doing children’s eye exams in Austin.
The Doctor
Once you visit with the eye doctor you’ll really be able to see if he is a good fit for your child’s needs. Eye doctors who are used to working with children have a great deal more patience with them than doctors who aren’t used to dealing with young children. They often have special tools available to help younger children to feel more comfortable while, at the same time, giving the doctor the information that he needs. If you find that your child needs glasses, in Austin it is a good idea to make sure that you do a fairly thorough check of potential eye doctors so that you can find one that is comfortable working with children and one that your child is comfortable visiting as well. This definitely makes things easier on you, the parent.
